WHEREAS, Mount Vernon at Home, an organization dedicated to supporting senior residents of Fairfax County by helping them maintain their independence and stay engaged with the community, celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2024; and
WHEREAS, Mount Vernon at Home was established by a group of retired friends and neighbors who foresaw the value of a support network that would allow them to age in place and continue enjoying active lives in their community; and
WHEREAS, Mount Vernon at Home fulfills its mission by coordinating services for residents through a team of dedicated volunteers; today, the organization has more than 30 volunteers serving more than 150 seniors in the Fairfax County community; and
WHEREAS, Mount Vernon at Home's volunteers assist residents by providing transportation to appointments, grocery shopping, light home repair, home cleaning and organization, technology support, and friendly visits; and
WHEREAS, Mount Vernon at Home improves the quality of residents' lives by offering them a diverse array of social, cultural, and educational activities, services, and events that are easily accessible from their homes; and
WHEREAS, by fostering a strong sense of community among its members and ensuring that they are able to participate fully in local life, Mount Vernon at Home has helped to make Fairfax County a wonderful place to live, work, raise a family, and age in place; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Mount Vernon at Home on the occasion of its 15th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mount Vernon at Home as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's history and its contributions to the Commonwealth.
