HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 391
Commending Piedmont Housing Alliance.

WHEREAS, the mission of Piedmont Housing Alliance is to create affordable housing opportunities and foster community through education, lending, and equitable development; and

WHEREAS, Piedmont Housing Alliance has been the Charlottesville region's leading affordable housing organization and has worked to improve people's financial outcomes for more than 40 years; and

WHEREAS, Piedmont Housing Alliance's decades of experience include innovative approaches, deep community connections, and the essential leadership required to create bold solutions to address local housing shortages and injustices; and

WHEREAS, the board of Piedmont Housing Alliance intentionally consists of a genuinely diverse group of community members, including the organization's beneficiaries; and

WHEREAS, Piedmont Housing Alliance's work is grounded in the values of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion and is deliberately reflective of the community served; and

WHEREAS, Piedmont Housing Alliance's housing counseling program creates ladders out of poverty with one-on-one coaching for home buying, credit improvement, debt reduction, savings programs, and eviction and foreclosure prevention; and

WHEREAS, Piedmont Housing Alliance has helped more than 1,000 first-time, aspiring homebuyers achieve homeownership and supported thousands more through financial counseling and eviction prevention; and

WHEREAS, in partnership with the Piedmont Community Land Trust, Piedmont Housing Alliance creates homeownership opportunities for low-income families in the costly Charlottesville housing market and has backed the development of more than 100 affordable for-sale homes; and

WHEREAS, since 1983, Piedmont Housing Alliance has financed the preservation and development of nearly 1,000 affordable rental homes and currently provides high-quality rental housing to more than 1,500 individuals in the greater Charlottesville region; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Piedmont Housing Alliance for its legacy of service; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Piedmont Housing Alliance as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's contributions to the Commonwealth.
