Commending Julian C. Deck.

WHEREAS, Julian C. Deck has dedicated his life to supporting teachers and students of the Commonwealth as a staunch advocate for public education; and

WHEREAS, Julian Deck is a proud son of the Commonwealth who graduated from James Wood High School in Winchester, and he holds a bachelor's degree in education from what is now Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Julian Deck served with distinction in the critically important role of a public school educator, working as an elementary physical education and driver education teacher in Warren County; and

WHEREAS, Julian Deck mentored young people as a football coach, defensive coordinator, and wrestling coach for Warren County High School; and

WHEREAS, Julian Deck has supported public school educators, throughout his beloved Shenandoah Valley and beyond, as a UniServ Director at the Virginia Education Association for 31 years; and

WHEREAS, Julian Deck has also advocated tirelessly for public education during more than 30 sessions of the General Assembly, earning the respect of legislators and staff on both sides of the aisle for his exceptional dedication and congeniality; and

WHEREAS, the 2024 Session of the General Assembly will be Julian Deck's final session advocating for public education; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Julian C. Deck for his work to support educators and young Virginians as an advocate for public education; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Julian C. Deck as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his contributions to the cause of public education in the Commonwealth.
