Commending Scouts BSA Troop 128.

WHEREAS, for 100 years, Scouts BSA Troop 128, the oldest Scout troop in McLean, has provided opportunities for outdoor recreation, leadership development, and community service to generations of local young people; and

WHEREAS, Troop 128 was chartered in February 1924 with John M. Hart as its first Scoutmaster; since then, the Troop has benefited from the wisdom and steady guidance of 40 other Troop leaders, including the current Troop Leader, Tom Brooke; and

WHEREAS, Troop 128 started with 10 original members and has grown to serve thousands of Scouts over the course of its history; in 2024, the Troop supports about 70 members from McLean, Falls Church, and Arlington; and

WHEREAS, Troop 128 holds regular meetings at Saint John's Episcopal Church and conducts more than 20 outings each year, including summer camps and high adventure trips for older Scouts; and

WHEREAS, Troop 128 promotes community outreach and good citizenship by organizing a wide range of local service projects, such as supporting the annual McLean Arts Festival, collecting food donations during holiday seasons, providing a color guard at the McLean Little League Parade, laying wreaths for veterans at Arlington National Cemetery, and many others; and

WHEREAS, more than 150 members of Troop 128 have achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Scouting, each of whom upheld the highest ideals of Scouting and completed an individual Eagle Scout service project of their own; and

WHEREAS, to celebrate 100 years of adventure, character, and service, Troop 128 will host a variety of special events, reunions, and outreach projects throughout the year; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Scouts BSA Troop 128 on the occasion of its 100th anniversary in 2024; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Scouts BSA Troop 128 as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the service and achievements of its members over the course of its long and storied history.
