HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 261
Commending John W. Zubrod.

WHEREAS, John W. Zubrod, who ably served as a member of the Brunswick County Board of Supervisors for eight years, retired from public office in 2023; and

WHEREAS, John Zubrod represented the Meherrin District from January 2016 to December 2023 and worked diligently to enhance the quality of life of all Brunswick County residents; and

WHEREAS, John Zubrod provided his expertise to standing committees related to emergency services, facilities, finance, solid waste, and technology; and

WHEREAS, John Zubrod was a champion for fire and emergency services personnel, and he oversaw improvements to broadband Internet access, enhancements to the emergency communications system, and the beginning of construction on a new school; and

WHEREAS, John Zubrod has served as a volunteer firefighter since 1976 with such fire departments as the Fair Lawn Fire Department, Ebony Fire Department, and currently with Lake Gaston Fire & EMS; and

WHEREAS, John Zubrod facilitated responsible growth and development in Brunswick County, including projects like the Brunswick County Byways Visitor Center, the Herman Road Lake Gaston Day Use Area, and bridge labeling on Lake Gaston; and

WHEREAS, John Zubrod supported the establishment of the Brunswick County Economic Development Department and proudly worked with the Brunswick County Planning Commission to develop a local solar power ordinance that has become a model for other localities; and

WHEREAS, John Zubrod also represented the community on the Lake Gaston Weed Control Council, Local Board of Public Welfare, Meherrin Regional Library Board, Meherrin River Regional Jail Authority, Southside Planning District Commission, Emergency Services Advisory Board, and Roanoke River Service Authority; and

WHEREAS, John Zubrod has worked in the aviation industry for 27 years, including serving as chief of the Mecklenburg-Brunswick Regional Airport and as chair of the Mecklenburg-Brunswick Regional Airport Commission; and

WHEREAS, over the course of his career in local government, John Zubrod served the residents of Brunswick County with the utmost dedication and integrity; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend John W. Zubrod for his years of service as a member of the Brunswick County Board of Supervisors; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John W. Zubrod as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his personal and professional achievements.
