HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 258

Commending Earlie Blount, Sr., and Blanche Blount.

WHEREAS, Earlie Blount, Sr., and Blanche Blount of Norfolk celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on December 31, 2011; and

WHEREAS, the couple met at a dance when Blanche's cousin introduced her to a handsome young man, Earlie Blount, and they wed on New Year's Eve in 1944; and

WHEREAS, Earlie and Blanche Blount embarked on their life together with a strong focus on communication and mutual respect and service; and

WHEREAS, as they welcomed a total of 11 children to their family, Earlie and Blanche Blount raised their sons and daughters to become productive members of society; and

WHEREAS, in 1969 Blanche Blount was honored as the Mother of the Year for the Campostella neighborhood in Norfolk and a family photo was taken for the New Journal and Guide; and

WHEREAS, the family photo, which included all members of the family except for one child who was serving in the United States Army, was recreated in 2011 with all the children in attendance; and

WHEREAS, Earlie and Blanche Blount raised 11 children—Earlean, William, Thelma, Earlie Jr., Doris, Larry, Delores, Wallace, Jasper, Cavin, and Theodore—all of whom graduated from high school and went on to contribute to their families and communities; and

WHEREAS, the family remains close, with all but one child living in the Norfolk area, and has grown to include 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, a wise and humble couple, Earlie and Blanche Blount have lived to see the results of their parenting, taking great pride in raising a strong family focused on serving one another; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Earlie Blount, Sr., and Blanche Blount on the occasion of their 67th wedding anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Earlie Blount, Sr., and Blanche Blount as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and admiration for the Blount's commitment to building a strong family.
