WHEREAS, Dyrri McCain, a proud graduate of Maury High School with the Class of 2007, and a former football player at Hampton University, has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication as the head football coach of Maury High School in Norfolk; and
WHEREAS, Dyrri McCain's impact on the lives of his players and the pathways he creates for them are nothing short of phenomenal, exemplifying his commitment to their personal growth and success both on and off the field; and
WHEREAS, Dyrri McCain possesses a unique blend of qualities that contribute to his coaching prowess, requiring his players to adhere to rules, attend classes, show respect, and work diligently, while holding them accountable for their actions with real consequences; and
WHEREAS, Dyrri McCain's ability to motivate, teach football skills, and serve as a mentor has led to remarkable results for the Maury High School football program, including an impressive record of 72–13 over the past seven years, with two undefeated 15–0 seasons, four state championship appearances, and two state championship titles, along with six consecutive regional championship victories; and
WHEREAS, under Dyrri McCain's guidance, the Maury High School football team has achieved a 100 percent graduation rate, produced 52 honor graduates, and fostered the development of 29 Division I student-athletes, five All-Americans, four Virginia Players of the Year, and two Tidewater Players of the Year; and
WHEREAS, the success of the Maury High School football program under Dyrri McCain extends beyond the field, with numerous former players continuing their academic and athletic pursuits at esteemed institutions across the country, including Clemson University, Pennsylvania State University, the University of South Carolina, the University of Wisconsin, Duke University, Old Dominion University, Coastal Carolina University, the University of Buffalo, The College of William & Mary, Virginia Military Institute, Norfolk State University, and others; and
WHEREAS, Dyrri McCain's leadership has cultivated a culture of excellence and achievement within the Maury High School football program, inspiring current and future generations of student-athletes to strive for greatness both on and off the field; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Dyrri McCain for his outstanding contributions to the Maury High School football program and the broader community, as well as his unwavering dedication, inspirational leadership, and commitment to excellence; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dyrri McCain, coach of the Maury High School football team, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his legacy of achievements.
