HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 212
Commending the Merchants Square Baskin-Robbins.

WHEREAS, the Merchants Square Baskin-Robbins, conveniently located near Colonial Williamsburg, has provided ice cream and other sweet treats to local residents and visitors for five decades; and

WHEREAS, the Merchants Square Baskin-Robbins had served the Williamsburg community since 1973 and was up for sale when Gina and Ralph Youngs, two practicing attorneys from Chicago, visited the area in 1998; and

WHEREAS, Gina and Ralph Youngs, who had made several previous visits to the Historic Triangle, researched the history of the franchise and decided to purchase the store and settle in the area; and

WHEREAS, working with the Baskin-Robbins corporation and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, Gina and Ralph Youngs have helped the Merchants Square location remain an integral part of the community, serving delicious ice cream, cakes, milkshakes, coffee drinks, and more to local families and countless visitors; and

WHEREAS, in 2023, Gina and Ralph Youngs celebrated their 25th anniversary of ownership, along with the store's 50th anniversary of service to the community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Merchants Square Baskin-Robbins for its legacy of service to the residents of and visitors to the Williamsburg area on the occasion of its 50th anniversary of operation; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Gina and Ralph Youngs, owners of the Merchants Square Baskin-Robbins, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for their contributions to the Williamsburg community.
