WHEREAS, the Fairfax Choral Society celebrates 50 years of sharing choral music with audiences in the Northern Virginia area with its 2011 - 2012 season; and WHEREAS, the Fairfax Choral Society, comprised of approximately 120 volunteers in nine ensembles, also provides students in pre-K through 12th grade the opportunity to develop their singing abilities by participating in performing groups and offering a variety of classes; and WHEREAS, the Fairfax Choral Society enjoys a proud tradition of musical excellence, artistic integrity, passion, commitment, respect, and artistic opportunity that is evidenced in the quality of its performances, which range from classical to contemporary; and WHEREAS, the Fairfax Choral Society, under the leadership of artistic director Douglas Mears, provides its admiring patrons with a season of choral masterpieces and performs with other local arts organizations at a variety of venues, including the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts; and WHEREAS, the youth choruses of the Fairfax Choral Society have delighted area audiences as Patrick Vaughn, director of youth choruses, and Caroline Crocker, director of youth education, have collaborated to create a unique opportunity for local children and youth to perform and learn about music; and WHEREAS, the Fairfax Choral Society's exciting 50th-anniversary season features a retrospective concert, an afternoon with legendary choral composer Z. Randall Stroope, and a spring follies concert in which the youth choruses take part in creating their own concert; and WHEREAS, the Fairfax Choral Society has enhanced the lives of Northern Virginia residents for half a century with its inspiring and entertaining musical performances and looks forward to continuing to provide the best in choral music in the future; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Fairfax Choral Society on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Christi Esterly Schwarten, Executive Director of the Fairfax Choral Society, as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and appreciation for the organization's contributions and commitment to choral music. |
