Celebrating the life of Richard Lewis Shelton.

WHEREAS, Richard Lewis Shelton, former Clerk of the Hanover Circuit Court, died on November 26, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Richard Shelton was born July 3, 1934, to the late Samuel W. and Phyllis Crawford Shelton and was one of four siblings; and

WHEREAS, Richard Shelton proudly served his country in the United States Army and Air National Guard; and

WHEREAS, Richard Shelton then began a long and enjoyable career with the Hanover Circuit Court Clerk's office in 1959; and

WHEREAS, recognized as an exemplary administrator, Richard Shelton was appointed clerk of the court in 1969; and

WHEREAS, an admired and respected public servant, Richard Shelton diligently served the citizens of Hanover County with great skill and dedication for 30 years until his retirement in 1999; and

WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Richard Shelton will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Jane Show Shelton; their two children, Richard L. Shelton II and Shannon S. Craig, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a dedicated public servant and outstanding Virginian, Richard Lewis Shelton; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Richard Lewis Shelton as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
