Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That §40.1-118 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:
§40.1-118. Authority of Council.
The Council may:
1. Determine standards for apprentice agreements, which standards shall not be lower than those prescribed by this chapter;
2. Appoint the secretary of the Apprenticeship Council to act as secretary of each state joint apprenticeship committee;
3. Review decisions of local joint apprenticeship committees relating to apprenticeship disputes pursuant to subdivision C 3 of §40.1-119;
4. Perform such other
duties as are necessary to carry out the intent of this chapter; and
5. Advise
the Commissioner on policies to coordinate apprenticeship-related instruction
delivered by state and local public education agencies.;
5. Determine standards and regulations for pre-apprenticeship programs;
6. Advise the Commissioner on how to innovate and expand apprenticeship-related instruction and apprenticeship opportunities across the Commonwealth; and
7. Perform other duties as are necessary to carry out the intent of this chapter.
