A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 22.1-299.5, relating to waiver of teacher licensure requirements; career and technical education teachers.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 22.1-299.5 as follows:

§22.1-299.5. Waiver of teacher licensure requirements; career and technical education teachers.

A. Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, any division superintendent may apply to the Department of Education for an annual waiver of the teacher licensure requirements for any individual whom the local school board hires or seeks to hire to teach in the area of career and technical education and who has at least 4,000 hours of recent and relevant employment experience, as defined by the Board pursuant to regulation.

B. The Department of Education shall establish a procedure for submitting, receiving, and acting upon such annual waiver applications.
