A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 32.1-276.6:01, relating to reporting surgical complications.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 32.1-276.6:01 as follows:

§32.1-276.6:01. Reporting of inpatient and outpatient surgical complications.

Any physician, regardless of whether he performed the surgical procedure, who treats a patient experiencing complications from an inpatient or outpatient surgical procedure, which occur within 60 days of the performance of the procedure shall report to the Board on such complications in accordance with the Board's regulations. The Board's regulations shall address, among other complications, any infections, perforations, or psychological problems that have resulted from the outpatient or inpatient surgical procedure.
