AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE
(Proposed by the House Committee on Education
on January 23, 2012)

A BILL requiring the Board of Education to adopt regulations establishing an additional testing period for the Standards of Learning assessments.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1.  §1. That the Board of Education shall adopt regulations providing for an additional testing period, to occur prior to March 1 of each year, for the administration of Standards of Learning assessments to students. Local school boards may elect to participate in such additional testing period. Any student who does not achieve a passing score during such additional testing period shall be permitted to retake the test during another testing period.

§2. Any costs associated with the administration of Standards of Learning assessments during the additional testing period adopted pursuant to §1 of this act shall be borne by the participating school division.
