HOUSE BILL NO. 1581 FLOOR AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE (Proposed by Delegate Watts on February 3, 2015) (Patron Prior to Substitute--Delegate Watts) A BILL to include mental health advanced directives in the mental health and awareness instruction portion of the Board of Education's family life education curriculum.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. §1. The family life education curriculum developed by the Board of Education shall include, as a component of instruction in mental health education and awareness, instruction on the availability of advance directives, as set forth in the Health Care Decisions Act (§54.1-2981 et seq.), related to mental health that permit an adult declarant to appoint an agent and authorize the agent to seek the hospitalization and evaluation of the declarant if the declarant shows signs of mental illness.
