VIRGINIA ACTS OF ASSEMBLY -- CHAPTER
An Act to require the Department of Social Services to convene a work group to develop a waiver proposal that would allow inmates to apply for SNAP benefits prior to release.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. §1. That the Department of Social Services (the Department) shall convene a work group to analyze and develop a proposal to request a waiver of the provisions of 7 C.F.R. §273.1(b)(7)(vi) by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to allow individuals in the custody of state or local correctional facilities in the Commonwealth to apply for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits prior to release from custody. The Department shall report the work group's findings and recommendations, including the waiver proposal, to the Governor and the General Assembly by November 1, 2022.
