Summary

Battery; school employees; penalty. Increases the penalty for battery against a public or private school employee engaged in the performance of his duties from a Class 1 misdemeanor with a two-day mandatory minimum sentence to a Class 6 felony with a six-month mandatory minimum sentence. The bill also increases the mandatory minimum sentence if the battery is committed by use of a firearm or other weapon prohibited on school property from six months to one year.
