Anthony Nicholas | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and | ||
commemorates the life of longtime San Antonio attorney Anthony | ||
Nicholas, who died May 7, 2011, at the age of 84; and | ||
WHEREAS, Anthony Nicholas was born December 1, 1926, and he | ||
was raised and educated in Austin; after graduating from Stephen | ||
F. Austin High School, he joined the United States Navy during | ||
World War II and served in the Asian and South Pacific Theaters; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, He returned to Austin and attended The University | ||
of Texas School of Law; in 1951 he began his career as a | ||
prosecutor with the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney's | ||
Office; he served as assistant criminal district attorney, and he | ||
was appointed chief prosecutor of the newly created Criminal | ||
District Court Number 2, later the 175th District Court of Bexar | ||
County; and | ||
WHEREAS, In 1957 Anthony Nicholas and Roy R. Barrera, Sr., | ||
formed a legal partnership that would become one of the longest | ||
unchanged partnerships in the history of San Antonio; on its 50th | ||
anniversary, in 2007, the partnership was featured in Texas | ||
Lawyer magazine; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Nicholas was a member of local, state, and | ||
national bar associations and was admitted to practice before the | ||
United States Supreme Court, the Texas Supreme Court, and state | ||
and federal district courts; he was a member of the original | ||
board of directors of the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and | ||
served as director for eight years; and | ||
WHEREAS, A distinguished and much-admired gentleman, | ||
Anthony Nicholas was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, | ||
and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by | ||
his family and his many friends; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
family of Anthony Nicholas: his wife, B. A. Nicholas; his sons, | ||
Stephen Nicholas and Drue Nicholas; his grandchildren, Michael | ||
and Kaelyn Nicholas; his stepchildren, Tracy Langlois, Stacy | ||
Ricks, and Asa Beach; and his step-grandchildren, Nicole and Ryan | ||
Langlois, Josie and Duke Mitchell, and Asa, Natalie, and Sophie | ||
Beach; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Anthony Nicholas. | ||
