Marguerite Marie Labasse Knisely | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens | ||
of Austin in mourning the loss of Marguerite Marie Labasse | ||
Knisely, who died May 6, 2015, at the age of 93; and | ||
WHEREAS, Marguerite Labasse was born April 1, 1922, in the | ||
rural village of Gentinnes, Belgium, and she moved to the City of | ||
Gembloux as a teenager; and | ||
WHEREAS, She served as an interpreter for American troops | ||
stationed in Gembloux in the final months of World War II, and | ||
during her service, she met and fell in love with Bill Knisely, a | ||
soldier from Michigan; she crossed the Atlantic in 1947, and they | ||
married three days after her arrival; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mrs. Knisely actively supported her husband while | ||
he earned his doctoral degree in anatomy at the Medical College | ||
of South Carolina, and she was his partner and confidante as he | ||
pursued a career in academic administration; they were blessed | ||
with five children, and the family moved throughout the United | ||
States as Mr. Knisely took on leadership roles at prominent | ||
universities; they lived in Austin during the 1960s and moved | ||
back to Austin in 1994; and | ||
WHEREAS, She was dedicated to her work as a homemaker and | ||
raised her children with an energetic and loving hand; she was | ||
known for her outstanding cooking and knitting skills, and she | ||
produced innumerable blankets, scarves, and sweaters for her | ||
nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, Marguerite Knisely was an independent, intelligent, | ||
and compassionate woman who was devoted to her husband and | ||
children and who remained active throughout her life; she was | ||
beloved by many, and she leaves behind memories that will long be | ||
cherished by all who were privileged to share in her life; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th | ||
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
family of Marguerite Marie Labasse Knisely; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Marguerite Knisely. | ||
