WHEREAS, Meningococcal disease is a serious health problem | ||
in Texas and across the country, and vaccinations play an | ||
important role in helping to stem outbreaks of the disease; and | ||
WHEREAS, This potentially fatal disease most commonly | ||
affects young people between the ages of 16 and 23; because of low | ||
vaccination rates, there have been numerous instances of | ||
meningitis B on college campuses in recent years; and | ||
WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention | ||
recommends that young adults consult with health care | ||
professionals about being vaccinated against the disease; and | ||
WHEREAS, Meningococcal disease can be prevented through | ||
proper vaccination, and a greater awareness about the disease | ||
would be beneficial to the health and well-being of many Texans; | ||
now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
Legislature, hereby encourage the public to learn more about | ||
meningococcal disease and the role vaccination plays in its | ||
prevention; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in | ||
recognition of this important subject. | ||
