| WHEREAS, Meningococcal disease is a serious health problem | ||
| in Texas and across the country, and vaccinations play an | ||
| important role in helping to stem outbreaks of the disease; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This potentially fatal disease most commonly | ||
| affects young people between the ages of 16 and 23; because of low | ||
| vaccination rates, there have been numerous instances of | ||
| meningitis B on college campuses in recent years; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention | ||
| recommends that young adults consult with health care | ||
| professionals about being vaccinated against the disease; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Meningococcal disease can be prevented through | ||
| proper vaccination, and a greater awareness about the disease | ||
| would be beneficial to the health and well-being of many Texans; | ||
| now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby encourage the public to learn more about | ||
| meningococcal disease and the role vaccination plays in its | ||
| prevention; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in | ||
| recognition of this important subject. | ||
