SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 887
|
|
WHEREAS, Meningococcal disease is a serious health problem |
|
in Texas and across the country, and vaccinations play an |
|
important role in helping to stem outbreaks of the disease; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This potentially fatal disease most commonly |
|
affects young people between the ages of 16 and 23; because of low |
|
vaccination rates, there have been numerous instances of |
|
meningitis B on college campuses in recent years; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention |
|
recommends that young adults consult with health care |
|
professionals about being vaccinated against the disease; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Meningococcal disease can be prevented through |
|
proper vaccination, and a greater awareness about the disease |
|
would be beneficial to the health and well-being of many Texans; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
Legislature, hereby encourage the public to learn more about |
|
meningococcal disease and the role vaccination plays in its |
|
prevention; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
recognition of this important subject. |
