| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Alexander E. Briseño for his many years of outstanding | ||
| service to the City of San Antonio; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Devoted to the San Antonio community, Mr. Briseño | ||
| has used his expertise and organizational skills to effectively | ||
| manage the many responsibilities of his various positions with | ||
| the city; he is currently retiring as chairman of the board of the | ||
| San Antonio Water System; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Alexander Briseño began his career with the city | ||
| in 1977 as an assistant to the city manager; he was appointed to | ||
| the position of city manager in April of 1990, and he served in | ||
| that capacity for nearly 11 years until his retirement in 2001; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, As city manager, he supervised the activities of | ||
| city departments and fostered numerous neighborhood and citywide | ||
| projects on behalf of area residents; in 1996, he was elected as a | ||
| fellow in the National Academy of Public Administration; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A distinguished public servant, he has also | ||
| served in a number of short-term positions, such as interim | ||
| president of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, | ||
| president of the San Antonio Water System, and interim president | ||
| WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman and a highly talented | ||
| administrator, Alexander Briseño is respected by his colleagues | ||
| in city government and by the citizens of San Antonio, and the | ||
| entire community is grateful for his expertise and leadership; | ||
| now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Alexander E. | ||
| Briseño for his invaluable contributions to the City of San | ||
| Antonio and his service as chairman of the board of the San | ||
| Antonio Water System and extend to him best wishes for the | ||
| retirement years ahead; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
