WHEREAS, Washington Irving Dual Language Academy, a charter | ||
school in the San Antonio Independent School District, is | ||
celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2023; and | ||
WHEREAS, Irving Academy was founded in 1923 and named after | ||
Washington Irving, a 19th century American author; it was | ||
established as one of San Antonio ISD's original eight junior high | ||
schools, and classes were initially held at Crockett Elementary | ||
before the Irving Junior High School building officially opened in | ||
January 1924; and | ||
WHEREAS, In 1973, Irving Academy moved to its present | ||
location on Delgado Street; a new band and mariachi hall was added | ||
in 2003 as part of a facilities expansion bond program, and the | ||
campus has since offered classes in band, mariachi, choir, and art, | ||
alongside dual language instruction, gifted and talented | ||
programming, special education programming, and guidance services | ||
for eligible students; and | ||
WHEREAS, Today, Washington Irving Dual Language Academy | ||
encompasses prekindergarten through eighth grade classes; its | ||
faculty members are committed to cultivating a safe and nurturing | ||
learning environment that empowers students to excel academically | ||
while acquiring language proficiency in both English and Spanish; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, For a century, Washington Irving Dual Language | ||
Academy has provided young Texans with a solid educational | ||
foundation that enables them to reach their full potential and | ||
become productive and engaged members of their communities, and it | ||
is a privilege to join in celebrating this special milestone in the | ||
school's history; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 3rd | ||
Called Session, hereby honor Washington Irving Dual Language | ||
Academy on its centennial and extend to its administrators, | ||
faculty, staff, and students sincere best wishes for continued | ||
success; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
Senate. |
