Quirino Z. Martinez | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens | ||
of Port Isabel in mourning the loss of Quirino Z. Martinez, who | ||
died March 26, 2015, at the age of 76; and | ||
WHEREAS, Quirino Martinez was a lifetime resident of Port | ||
Isabel, and he was dedicated to his work in public service on | ||
behalf of his beloved community; and | ||
WHEREAS, He began his service to Port Isabel in 1970 when | ||
he became city commissioner, and soon thereafter, he served as | ||
mayor pro-tempore; he was mayor of Port Isabel from 1976 to 1984 and | ||
from 1996 to 1998, and during his years of mayoral leadership, the | ||
coastal community experienced many exciting transformations; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez guided renovations of local parks | ||
and the rebuilding of the city dock; he oversaw the construction | ||
of a new library, a community center, and a chamber of commerce | ||
complex, and he established the Laguna Madre Park and the Port | ||
Isabel Health Clinic; he worked diligently to make his community | ||
a better place for residents and visitors, and in doing so, he | ||
gained the respect and admiration of many; and | ||
WHEREAS, He was devoted to his family and shared 60 years | ||
of marriage with Julia R. Martinez; they were blessed with four | ||
children, 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three | ||
great-great-grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez was an outstanding community leader | ||
who helped to make Port Isabel the vibrant city it is today; he | ||
was beloved by area citizens, and he leaves behind memories that | ||
will long be treasured by all who were privileged to share in his | ||
life; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th | ||
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
family of Quirino Z. Martinez; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Quirino Z. Martinez. | ||
