WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
recognize Charles Wayne Key for his 38 years of outstanding | ||
service with the Houston Fire Department; and | ||
WHEREAS, A native Houstonian, Charles Key completed his | ||
fire-training course at the City of Houston Fire Training Academy | ||
in April of 1973; he completed requirements for certification as | ||
a fire inspector through classes at the Texas Commission on Fire | ||
Protection Personnel and Standards, and he completed a Public | ||
Fire Safety Education-Field Program Course at Texas A&M | ||
University; and | ||
WHEREAS, After six years of loyal service as a ladderman | ||
and ladder truck driver, he was promoted to the position of | ||
inspector for the industrial area of Houston; in 1980, he was | ||
assigned to help develop the department's public education | ||
program, and his work included presentations for television and | ||
radio and assisting with a variety of programs focusing on fire | ||
safety in Houston's high-rise buildings; and | ||
WHEREAS, In 1993, Mr. Key was promoted to the position of | ||
senior inspector in charge of high-rise evacuation, and from 1993 | ||
to 2008, he served as executive director of the Houston High-Rise | ||
Triad Committee; since 2000, he has served as chief inspector in | ||
the Fire Marshal's Office, which has included serving as chief | ||
over the High-Rise Inspection and Evacuation Team and managing | ||
public education and information technology for the Fire | ||
Marshal's Office; and | ||
WHEREAS, A dedicated public servant, Mr. Key has also served | ||
for many years as a volunteer for Camp Janus, an annual camping | ||
experience for children that have survived severe burn injury; he | ||
served as the camp's director for six years; and | ||
WHEREAS, Charles Key is well known for his able leadership | ||
in the Houston Fire Department, and he is respected for his | ||
courage and the dedication to his profession that he has | ||
displayed throughout his career; in addition to having dealt with | ||
the unique challenges of a fire inspector's duties, Mr. Key | ||
became an ordained minister and currently serves as pastor of | ||
Tree of Life Fellowship Church in Conroe; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
Legislature, hereby commend Charles Wayne Key on his many years | ||
of outstanding public service as a member of the Houston Fire | ||
Department and extend to him best wishes for the retirement years | ||
ahead; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
