WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, retired Command Sergeant | ||
Major Dr. Evelyn Hollis served her country with great distinction | ||
as a member of the U.S. Army, and the observance of Women Veterans | ||
Day 2023 provides a fitting opportunity to pay tribute to her | ||
outstanding military career; and | ||
WHEREAS, Dr. Hollis joined the U.S. Army in 1979 as an | ||
administrative assistant, and she went on to become the first | ||
African American woman in army history to serve as a command | ||
sergeant major for a combat arms unit; her overseas assignments | ||
included tours in Germany and operational deployments to Southwest | ||
Asia and Iraq; she has worked as a military analyst for the Air | ||
Defense Artillery School and as a senior technical trainer for the | ||
Command Post of the Future; currently, she teaches at Park | ||
University and serves as an honorary sergeant major with the 1st Air | ||
Defense Artillery Regiment; and | ||
WHEREAS, This esteemed veteran has received numerous honors, | ||
including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, and various | ||
foreign and service awards, and she was inducted into the U.S. Army | ||
Women's Foundation Hall of Fame; she holds a master's degree in | ||
human resource development and management as well as a doctorate in | ||
management; and | ||
WHEREAS, During her years in uniform, Evelyn Hollis upheld | ||
the highest ideals of our nation's armed forces, demonstrating | ||
exemplary bravery, dedication, and integrity, and her fellow | ||
citizens owe her a lasting debt of gratitude; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature | ||
hereby commend Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Dr. Evelyn Hollis for | ||
her military service on the occasion of Women Veterans Day 2023 and | ||
extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Dr. Evelyn Hollis as an | ||
expression of high regard by the Texas Senate. |
