| WHEREAS, Members of Grace Cathedral Church in Houston are | ||
| celebrating the 30th anniversary of the founding of their church | ||
| on June 28, 2015; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Established in 1985 by Mildred Woodard, Christine | ||
| and John Brooks, Julia Haynes, Rance Allen, Bessie Mayes, and | ||
| Forrest and Velma Mitchell, Grace Cathedral Church has played a | ||
| vital role in the community, providing myriad opportunities for | ||
| spiritual growth, fellowship, and outreach; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Worshippers first benefited from the able | ||
| leadership of the Reverend Lewis Terry Jr., and today that | ||
| tradition of service is continued by the Reverend Charles | ||
| H. Taylor Sr.; in 2002, Pastor Taylor helped organize the | ||
| G. C. Community Development Corporation, which works through the | ||
| church to provide affordable housing for seniors; and | ||
| WHEREAS, For three decades, Grace Cathedral Church has | ||
| served as a source of inspiration and guidance to all those who | ||
| are involved in its activities, and its continued existence is a | ||
| testament to the unwavering commitment of its members and clergy, | ||
| both past and present; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th | ||
| Legislature, hereby recognize Grace Cathedral Church on the | ||
| occasion of its 30th anniversary homecoming celebration and | ||
| extend to its pastor and congregation sincere best wishes for the | ||
| future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be | ||
| prepared for the church as an expression of high regard from the | ||
| Texas Senate. | ||
