WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with | ||
the passing of Charles Allen Hicks on September 14, 2021, at the | ||
age of 90; and | ||
WHEREAS, The son of Haskell and Era Hicks, Charles Hicks | ||
was born in Mills County on March 13, 1931, and he grew up with | ||
the companionship of three siblings, Walter, Gayle, and Annette; | ||
after graduating from Odessa High School, he joined the U.S. Air | ||
Force, working as an air police officer in downtown San Antonio | ||
and then in security services at Kelly Air Force Base before his | ||
discharge in 1959; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Hicks was subsequently employed with | ||
McCullough Tool Company in Odessa until 1961, when he embarked on | ||
a long and rewarding career with the Cosden Refinery in Big | ||
Spring; over the course of his 27-year tenure, he helped operate | ||
the fluid catalytic cracking unit and served as a pump mechanic; | ||
following his retirement in 1988, he returned to Mills County and | ||
raised cattle on his ranch on the Colorado River; he was also | ||
active in his community as a member of the Mills County American | ||
Legion and Austin Avenue Church of Christ in Brownwood; and | ||
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Hicks benefited from | ||
the love and support of his wife, LaQuita, with whom he shared a | ||
fulfilling marriage that spanned nearly seven decades; he took | ||
great pride in their children, Denise, Patricia, and Charla, and | ||
with the passing years, he had the pleasure of welcoming into his | ||
family 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and | ||
his country, Charles Hicks earned the lasting respect and | ||
admiration of all who were privileged to know him; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 87th Texas Legislature, | ||
3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Charles | ||
Allen Hicks and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his | ||
passing; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns | ||
this day, it do so in memory of Charles Hicks. |
