WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
recognize Emily Ruth Shelton for her outstanding service with | ||
Texas Impact; and | ||
WHEREAS, Texas Impact is a statewide religious grassroots | ||
network dedicated to promoting public policies that advance | ||
widely held social principles of justice and equality; this | ||
dedicated organization was founded on the belief that religious | ||
communities are called upon to minister to the whole person and | ||
that such a ministry must include an involvement in basic social | ||
concerns at the state government level; and | ||
WHEREAS, Emily joined Texas Impact while an undergraduate | ||
at The University of Texas at Austin and in a few short years has | ||
become a veteran public policy advocate; and | ||
WHEREAS, She is a longtime lay leader at University United | ||
Methodist Church and has provided strong leadership to | ||
communities of faith across the state in working for justice in | ||
health care, immigration, taxes, and other vital state public | ||
policy issues; and | ||
WHEREAS, Emily is respected and admired by her colleagues, | ||
and her presence at Texas Impact will be greatly missed; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Emily Ruth | ||
Shelton on her exceptional service to Texas Impact and extend to | ||
her best wishes for continued success in all her future | ||
endeavors; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
