WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
recognize Traci Wickett on her retirement as president and chief | ||
executive officer of United Way of Southern Cameron County after | ||
27 years of exemplary leadership; and | ||
WHEREAS, The United Fund of Brownsville was founded in | ||
1967 and became the United Way of Southern Cameron County in | ||
1993; in 1996, Traci accepted the position of president and chief | ||
executive officer of the organization and served until her | ||
retirement on February 28, 2023; a capable and brilliant woman, | ||
during the course of her leadership, Traci made extraordinary | ||
contributions to United Way and to the people of Southern Cameron | ||
County; and | ||
WHEREAS, Traci was instrumental in implementing | ||
initiatives that improved early childhood development and | ||
education to ensure school readiness, in expanding the Volunteer | ||
Income Tax Assistance program to help families claim their Earned | ||
Income Tax Credit and thereby improve their financial | ||
circumstances, and in 2014, in persuading the City of Brownsville | ||
to approve an anti-predatory-lending ordinance; and | ||
WHEREAS, Before joining United Way, Traci graduated summa | ||
cum laude from Corpus Christi State University in 1979 and | ||
embarked on a successful 16-year career with Mercantile Bank, | ||
where she served as vice president and technology manager for the | ||
last eight years of her tenure; and | ||
WHEREAS, Traci has held leadership positions in numerous | ||
professional associations and service organizations and has | ||
received several leadership and merit awards, including being | ||
named Brownsville Woman of the Year in 2006; she chaired the | ||
boards of United Ways of Texas and the Brownsville Chamber of | ||
Commerce, and she served on the National Professional Council of | ||
United Way Worldwide for 10 years; and | ||
WHEREAS, It is truly fitting that Traci receive special | ||
recognition on her many positive contributions to Cameron County | ||
and for dedicating her time and energy to improving the lives of | ||
those in her community; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
Legislature, hereby commend Traci Wickett on her years of | ||
invaluable service to United Way of Southern Cameron County and | ||
extend to her best wishes for an enjoyable retirement and success | ||
in all her future endeavors; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
