Melissa Susan Mitchell-Manning | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Melissa Susan | ||
Mitchell-Manning, who died on January 29, 2011, at the age of 55; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, Melissa was born September 30, 1955, in Columbus, | ||
Ohio, to Vincent and Loretta Hickey; she grew up in Chicago, | ||
Illinois, and graduated from Wissahickon Senior High School in | ||
Pennsylvania; and | ||
WHEREAS, In the early 1980s, she moved to Texas, where she | ||
raised her five children and later spent time with her | ||
grandchildren; she coached soccer, basketball, and Little League | ||
and served as a parent-teacher association president for two | ||
terms in Houston; and | ||
WHEREAS, Melissa enjoyed traveling with her beloved | ||
husband, Robert Manning, and shopping, cooking, and baking; she | ||
was dedicated to her work as a homemaker and to her career with | ||
First American Title; and | ||
WHEREAS, An exemplary lady, Melissa was respected in the | ||
community for her many accomplishments, and her courage during | ||
the course of her illness was an inspiration to others; and | ||
WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity, | ||
she gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom, | ||
warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who | ||
knew her; and | ||
WHEREAS, Melissa was a devoted wife, mother, and | ||
grandmother, and she leaves behind memories that will be | ||
treasured forever by her family and many friends; now, therefore, | ||
be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
family of Melissa Susan Mitchell-Manning: her husband, Robert | ||
Manning; her sister, Anne Grzanka; and her five children and two | ||
grandsons; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy | ||
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this | ||
day, it do so in memory of Melissa Mitchell-Manning. | ||
