SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 325
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join Texans across the state in celebrating February 28, 2017, as
  Grammy Texas Music Advocacy Day; and
         WHEREAS, Texas has a unique musical heritage that is a
  source of cultural enrichment for people around the world; from
  Texas country music to Tejano music, the state has been the
  birthplace of a myriad of distinctive musical styles and home to
  musicians from every musical genre; and
         WHEREAS, Live music festivals in Texas generate millions
  of dollars in economic activity each year, and more than 160,000
  jobs across the state are related to the music industry; aware of
  the important contributions of musicians to the state, the Texas
  Legislature created the Texas Music Office to promote and support
  the state's culturally significant music industry; and
         WHEREAS, Texas musical artists were nominated for 42
  awards at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards and won 12 of the
  prestigious honors; in 1998, the Recording Academy, the
  organization responsible for the Grammy Awards, established a
  Texas chapter to serve the state's music community; and
         WHEREAS, Among those who have contributed significantly to
  the Texas Chapter are Yolanda Adams, an award-winning gospel
  artist and the chapter governor from Houston; Kevin Russell, an
  Austin Music Hall of Fame Inductee and chapter governor from
  Austin; Paul Wall, a Grammy-nominated rap artist and chapter
  trustee from Houston; Ricky Anderson, an entertainment attorney
  and chapter governor from the Houston area; Sarah Jaffe, a
  musician and songwriter and chapter voting member from Denton;
  and Theresa Jenkins, the senior executive director of Grammys in
  Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Music has been a vital part of the fabric of life
  in Texas since the state's founding, and it is truly fitting that
  a day be set aside to honor the state's musicians and their many
  achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby recognize February 28, 2017, as Grammy Texas
  Music Advocacy Day and call on Texans to value and pay tribute to
  the men and women who create music in our state; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of this special occasion.
