SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 30
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  James H. Smith
 
         WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their
  memories of James H. Smith, who passed away on December 22, 2020,
  at the age of 71; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Euel Jackson Smith Jr. and Bill and
  Marlena Terry, James Smith was born in Junction on March 14,
  1949; he grew up in the Hill Country of West Texas with seven
  siblings, Mike, Barbara, Gary, Steve, Richard, Patricia, and
  Mollie; the Terry home was always full of lively competition,
  from foot races to games of dominos and cards; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Smith was employed as a roughneck; after
  joining McAlester Fuel Company as a roustabout, he shifted to
  offshore drilling rigs in 1987 and continued to work offshore
  until his retirement; and
         WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Smith shared a
  fulfilling 18-year relationship with his wife, Joann; he was the
  proud father of a son, E. J., and two daughters, Kelli and
  Krystal; with the passing years, he was blessed with 11
  grandchildren, and he loved to watch their ball games and
  performances; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Smith was very creative; he liked to compose
  songs and play them for others, and some of his poems were
  published in books; in addition, he enjoyed hunting, softball,
  playing cards, and spending time with his loved ones; a man of
  faith, he found wonderful fellowship as an active member of Glade
  Creek Baptist Church; and
         WHEREAS, Although James Smith is deeply missed, those who
  held him dear will forever remember the warmth and kindness he
  brought into their lives; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
  Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life
  of James H. Smith and extend sincere condolences to his relatives
  and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
  this day, it do so in memory of James H. Smith.
