Joseph Claude Martin III | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and | ||
commemorates the life of Joseph Claude Martin III, who died on | ||
October 29, 2023, at the age of 82; and | ||
WHEREAS, Joe Martin III was born on May 3, 1941; a | ||
descendent of some of the oldest families in South Texas, Joe was | ||
raised in Laredo; his family was deeply rooted in the economic | ||
life of the region, especially in ranching, commerce, and | ||
politics, and he would go on to continue this legacy; and | ||
WHEREAS, After completing his education, Joe began working | ||
in the insurance business and in real estate development in | ||
Laredo; he also became involved in ranching, construction, and | ||
oil and gas exploration, and he found great success and | ||
fulfillment in his various professional pursuits; and | ||
WHEREAS, Blessed with remarkable leadership abilities, Mr. | ||
Martin served on a number of professional boards and | ||
organizations, including as a trustee of the Bruni Mineral Trust; | ||
following in his father's and grandfather's footsteps, he also | ||
served as a co-trustee of the Lamar Bruni Vergara Trust and as a | ||
board member of the Laredo National Bank; and | ||
WHEREAS, A highly esteemed member of his community, Joe | ||
forged many lasting friendships throughout his life; he took | ||
great pleasure in wing shooting and in traveling, and he enjoyed | ||
serving his fellow citizens through his civic endeavors; and | ||
WHEREAS, Joe was a devoted father to his four children, | ||
Michelle, Melissa, Joseph, and Albert; he was a loving | ||
grandfather to his six grandchildren and to his two | ||
great-grandchildren, and his life was immeasurably enriched | ||
through his relationship with his cherished partner, Rita K. | ||
Peters; and | ||
WHEREAS, Joe was a man of strength, wisdom, and | ||
determination, and his compassion, his generous spirit, and his | ||
dedication to serving others were evident to all who knew him; he | ||
leaves behind precious memories that will be forever treasured by | ||
his family and friends and by all who were privileged to share in | ||
his life; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby extend sincere | ||
condolences to the bereaved family of Joseph Claude Martin III; | ||
and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Joe Martin III. | ||
