William Henry Peckham III | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and | ||
commemorates the life of William Henry Peckham III, who died | ||
February 15, 2021, at the age of 91; and | ||
WHEREAS, A devoted family man, a successful entrepreneur, | ||
and a generous philanthropist, Bill Peckham was an esteemed | ||
member of the community, and he enriched the lives of all who knew | ||
him through his conscientious civic example; and | ||
WHEREAS, Bill Peckham was born in Houston on March 11, | ||
1929; he married Harriett Carlton in 1950, and they raised four | ||
daughters on the family ranch in Richmond; he was blessed to find | ||
love again with Elizabeth "Sissy" Sparks, whom he married in | ||
1968, and to this union his son was born; Bill and Sissy relocated | ||
to Round Rock in 1983; and | ||
WHEREAS, During his long and colorful career, Mr. Peckham | ||
owned and operated such businesses as the West End Lumber Yard, | ||
the Hamm's Beer Distributing Company, and Round Rock Travel and | ||
Tours; he owned, bred, and raced some of the nation's greatest | ||
quarter horse sires at Peckhamhurst Farm in Kentucky, and he and | ||
Sissy opened the Commonwealth Race Course solely for quarter | ||
horse racing; he also formed the Sprint Racing Commission; and | ||
WHEREAS, Bill Peckham contributed greatly to the Round | ||
Rock community, and he enjoyed traveling the world and building | ||
lasting memories with his family; he was a man of true vision, | ||
generosity, and grit, and he will long be remembered with | ||
profound admiration by all who were privileged to share in his | ||
life; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th | ||
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
family of William Henry Peckham III; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Bill Peckham. | ||
