Stephen Nash Sr. | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and | ||
commemorates the life of Dr. Stephen Charles Nash Sr., who died | ||
June 28, 2023, at the age of 73; and | ||
WHEREAS, Stephen Nash was born in Phoenix, Arizona, on | ||
June 10, 1950; a highly intellectual man of religious depth and | ||
devotion, he shaped a rewarding life of service as a reverend and | ||
a spiritual leader; and | ||
WHEREAS, Stephen was called to the ministry at the age of | ||
18; a graduate of Bishop College, he earned doctorates from Aspen | ||
Theological Seminary and Survine Ministries Bible College and | ||
Theological Seminary, and he dedicated his life to ministering | ||
faithfully to the physical and spiritual needs of innumerable | ||
Christians; and | ||
WHEREAS, Over the course of six decades, Dr. Nash pastored | ||
at churches in Van Alstyne, McKinney, Marshall, and Lubbock; for | ||
32 years he faithfully led the Mount Tabor Baptist Church in | ||
Dallas, where he performed countless ceremonies and prayed for | ||
his church members in times of hardship and bereavement as well | ||
as in times of celebration and joy; under Dr. Nash's outstanding | ||
leadership, the congregation thrived as a spiritual family and | ||
grew into one of the most influential houses of worship in the | ||
nation; and | ||
WHEREAS, An accomplished biblical scholar, Dr. Nash | ||
authored 10 books on theology and the history of African | ||
Americans in Christianity; he held leadership roles with a number | ||
of organizations, including the Texas Interdenominational | ||
Ministers' Alliance and the Baptist Missionary and Education | ||
State Convention; Dr. Nash was a luminary in the fight for racial | ||
equality and a tireless advocate for marginalized and oppressed | ||
communities in Texas, and he transformed the lives of many | ||
through his steadfast devotion to the principles of liberty and | ||
justice; and | ||
WHEREAS, Dr. Nash was a proud father to his two children, | ||
Angela and Stephen Jr., and he greatly cherished his six | ||
grandchildren; he was revered as a mentor and spiritual father to | ||
many, and he provided counsel and comfort to countless | ||
individuals; and | ||
WHEREAS, A treasured member of the Dallas community, | ||
Dr. Nash led a full and rewarding life, and his strength of | ||
character and visionary leadership were a source of inspiration | ||
to many; he leaves behind a spiritual legacy that will make a | ||
positive difference for generations to come, and he will long be | ||
remembered with great respect and admiration by those who were | ||
privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere | ||
condolences to the bereaved family of Dr. Stephen Charles Nash | ||
Sr.; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Dr. Nash. | ||
