WHEREAS, Michael V. Tidwell was appointed president of The | ||
University of Texas at Tyler by The University of Texas System | ||
Board of Regents on January 1, 2017; and | ||
WHEREAS, A highly regarded administrator and educator, | ||
Dr. Tidwell came to The University of Texas at Tyler from Eastern | ||
Michigan University, where he was dean of the College of | ||
Business; among other noteworthy accomplishments, he designed | ||
and launched a plan that quadrupled fund-raising within three | ||
years, and he established a new chair in entrepreneurship with a | ||
$1 million gift; he previously served as dean of the College of | ||
Business at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania and as | ||
assistant dean of the Clayton State University School of Business | ||
in Georgia; and | ||
WHEREAS, Dr. Tidwell began his academic career as a | ||
visiting assistant professor in the College of Communication and | ||
Information at the University of Kentucky--Lexington and later | ||
joined the faculties of Whitworth University in Washington and | ||
Truman State University--Kirksville in Missouri; in addition, he | ||
has held several faculty appointments in India and Kenya; his | ||
recent research is focused on managing business relationships | ||
across international boundaries, and he is widely published in | ||
such scholarly journals as the International Journal of | ||
Management Theory and Practices, the Journal of Business | ||
Communication, and Nonprofit Management and Leadership; since | ||
2003, he has also been a business consultant in human resource | ||
matters; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born in southern California, with family roots in | ||
Tyler, Dr. Tidwell received his bachelor's degree in communication | ||
from Ball State University in 1995; he gained work experience in | ||
marketing, corporate communications, and corporate management | ||
before going on to complete both his master's degree in | ||
communication and doctorate in organizational studies at | ||
Washington State University; in all his endeavors, he is supported | ||
by the love and encouragement of his wife, Karen, and he is the | ||
proud father of two sons, Cyrus and Bradley; and | ||
WHEREAS, Michael Tidwell has earned a sterling reputation | ||
through his vision, dynamism, and commitment to excellence, and | ||
The University of Texas at Tyler is sure to benefit from his | ||
skilled leadership; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Michael V. | ||
Tidwell on his new role as president of The University of Texas at | ||
Tyler and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued | ||
success; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
Dr. Tidwell as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. | ||
