| Tonya McCoy | ||
| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
| citizens of Dallas in mourning the loss of Tonya McCoy, an | ||
| esteemed member of the community who recently passed away after a | ||
| life of generous civic service; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Tonya McCoy was an inspiration to all who knew her | ||
| through her wisdom, her kindness, and her dedication to the | ||
| principles of equality and social justice; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Tonya was an active volunteer for the Democratic | ||
| Party, and she faithfully supported the party through her | ||
| extensive service at the local, state, and national levels; and | ||
| WHEREAS, She assisted in numerous elections as a | ||
| campaigner and an election clerk, and she gave generously of her | ||
| time to charitable fund-raisers and to such events as the Dallas | ||
| Democratic Labor Day Picnic; she served as a canvassing field | ||
| leader during President Barack Obama's 2008 presidential | ||
| campaign, and in 2008, 2012, and 2016, she was a delegate to both | ||
| the 23rd Senatorial District Convention and the Texas Democratic | ||
| Convention; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Tonya McCoy advocated positive change for Texas | ||
| communities through her spirit of service and her active support | ||
| of Democratic Party leaders; she was a loyal friend to many, and | ||
| she leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by those | ||
| who were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th | ||
| Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
| family of Tonya McCoy; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
| Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
| memory of Tonya McCoy. | ||
