| WHEREAS, | ||
| WHEREAS, This distinguished attorney is well known for his | ||
| wisdom and generosity of spirit, and he is an admired and | ||
| respected citizen of our state; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Joe Longley was born February 10, 1943; he has | ||
| served the people of Texas with distinction through his work to | ||
| ensure that they are treated fairly and with equity by the | ||
| state's businesses; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Longley played a vital role in the passage of | ||
| some of the nation's strongest consumer protection legislation | ||
| when, as the 29-year-old chief of the state attorney general's | ||
| Antitrust and Consumer Protection Division, he coauthored and | ||
| shepherded through to passage the Texas Deceptive Trade | ||
| Practices-Consumer Protection Act; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Mr. Longley has devoted | ||
| his practice of law to helping those victimized by consumer fraud | ||
| and bad faith insurance practices; he has also been an adjunct | ||
| professor at The University of Texas School of Law and served as | ||
| director of the State Bar of Texas; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He and his law partner, Philip Maxwell, have been | ||
| named to Texas Lawyer's 100 Legal Legends, and he was the 2011 | ||
| recipient of the Insurance Legend award from the state bar's | ||
| Insurance Section; known as the number one enemy of the fine | ||
| print, he is truly deserving of recognition as he achieves this | ||
| milestone in his life; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend Joe K. Longley on his many | ||
| outstanding achievements and extend to him best wishes for a | ||
| memorable 70th birthday; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
