Leah Elizabeth Flowers | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
citizens of Fort Worth in mourning the loss of Leah Elizabeth | ||
Flowers, who died July 3, 2013, at the age of 74; and | ||
WHEREAS, Leah Flowers was born March 16, 1939, in Miami, | ||
Florida; she grew up in Nashville and was a 1957 graduate of West | ||
End High School, where she was a cheerleader; and | ||
WHEREAS, While attending George Peabody College for | ||
Teachers, she met Vanderbilt Divinity School student Ron | ||
Flowers, and the couple married on August 21, 1959; they enjoyed | ||
nearly 54 years of marriage together, raised three children, and | ||
were blessed with grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, The family moved to Fort Worth in 1966 when | ||
Mr. Flowers took a position on the faculty of Texas Christian | ||
University; Leah earned a degree from the university in 1978, and | ||
she served as an administrative assistant in the Psychology | ||
Department for 23 years; and | ||
WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced her faith in her | ||
daily life, she was a longtime member of University Christian | ||
Church, where she served as an elder and was active in the | ||
Outbound Communion Ministry, the Prayer Shawl Ministry, and the | ||
Chancel Choir, which performed at Carnegie Hall; and | ||
WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she | ||
gave unselfishly to others, and her gracious personality, her | ||
generous spirit, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the | ||
fullest will not be forgotten; and | ||
WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, | ||
and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by | ||
her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd | ||
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere | ||
condolences to the bereaved family of Leah Elizabeth Flowers; | ||
and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Leah Flowers. | ||
