| a case assigned to a special three-judge district court. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Chapter 22A, Government Code, is amended by | ||
| adding Section 22A.0055 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 22A.0055. ATTORNEY'S FEES. In a case assigned to a | ||
| special three-judge district court under this chapter and in any | ||
| related case consolidated with the case before the court, the court | ||
| may not award attorney's fees in an amount that exceeds $250,000. | ||
| SECTION 2. Section 22A.0055, Government Code, as added by | ||
| this Act, applies only to a case assigned to a special three-judge | ||
| district court on or after the effective date of this Act. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2017. | ||
