A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to transportation of students entitled to a public
education grant.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 29, Education Code, is
amended by adding Section 29.2021 to read as follows:
Sec. 29.2021. TRANSPORTATION. (a) The school district in
which a student resides shall provide each student attending in
accordance with this subchapter another school in the district or a
school in a contiguous school district with transportation free of
charge to and from the school the student attends.
(b) The school district in which a student resides may
contract with a private entity or another school district for
transportation services necessary to provide transportation
required under Subsection (a).
(c) The school district in which a student resides shall
provide each student attending a school in another school district
in accordance with this subchapter that is not contiguous to the
district in which the student resides with transportation free of
charge to and from the school the student would otherwise attend.
SECTION 2. Section 29.203(f), Education Code, is repealed.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
