relating to an appropriation for border security operations. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION TO TRUSTEED PROGRAMS WITHIN THE | ||
OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR. (a) The amount of $1,567,428,000 is | ||
appropriated from the general revenue fund to the Trusteed Programs | ||
within the Office of the Governor for use during the two-year period | ||
beginning on the effective date of this Act for the purpose of | ||
providing funding for border security operations. | ||
(b) Of the amount appropriated by Subsection (a) of this | ||
section, the Trusteed Programs within the Office of the Governor | ||
shall use $17,428,000 to support the border prosecution unit | ||
established under Subchapter B, Chapter 772, Government Code. | ||
(c) Of the amount appropriated by Subsection (a) of this | ||
section, the Trusteed Programs within the Office of the Governor | ||
shall use $10,000,000 to provide grants to local governments to | ||
mitigate the potential costs of additional demands on local | ||
prosecutorial and correctional resources, contingent upon | ||
enactment of Senate Bill 11 or similar legislation by the 88th | ||
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, 2023. | ||
(d) Of the amount appropriated by Subsection (a) of this | ||
section, the Trusteed Programs within the Office of the Governor | ||
shall transfer $40,000,000 to the Department of Public Safety for | ||
the purpose of responding to the border crisis. | ||
SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect | ||
immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members | ||
elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas | ||
Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for | ||
immediate effect, this Act takes effect on the 91st day after the | ||
last day of the legislative session. |
