| relating to the study of an economic impact zone by the Texas | ||
| Department of Transportation. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. (a) Contingent on the enactment of S.B. 84 or | ||
| similar legislation by the 85th Legislature, Regular Session, 2017, | ||
| allowing the Texas Department of Transportation to finance a | ||
| highway project using a transportation impact zone, the Texas | ||
| Department of Transportation shall: | ||
| (1) conduct a study on the benefits, limitations, and | ||
| effects of the use of the zone; and | ||
| (2) provide to the legislature a report containing the | ||
| findings of the study not later than December 1, 2018. | ||
| (b) If S.B. 84 or similar legislation is not enacted by the | ||
| 85th Legislature, Regular Session, 2017, Subsection (a) of this | ||
| section has no effect. | ||
| (c) This section expires January 1, 2019. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2017. | ||
