A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to selection of statewide competition locations by the
  University Interscholastic League.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter D, Chapter 33, Education Code, is
  amended by adding Section 33.0835 to read as follows:
         Sec. 33.0835.  UNIVERSITY INTERSCHOLASTIC LEAGUE: SELECTION
  OF LOCATIONS FOR STATEWIDE COMPETITIONS. (a) The University
  Interscholastic League shall select locations for statewide
  competitions in extracurricular activities sponsored or sanctioned
  by the league in accordance with this section.
         (b)  For each extracurricular activity for which the
  University Interscholastic League sponsors or sanctions a
  statewide annual competition, the league shall periodically issue a
  statewide request for proposals from institutions of higher
  education and other appropriate entities seeking to host the
  statewide competition during the year or years specified in the
  request for proposals.
         (c)  A request for proposals must:
               (1)  specify the factors that the University
  Interscholastic League will consider in selecting the host for the
  statewide competition; and
               (2)  require an entity to submit relevant information
  regarding the capability of the entity to host the competition,
  including available facilities, accommodations, and personnel.
         SECTION 2.  Section 33.0835, Education Code, as added by
  this Act, applies only to a statewide competition to be held on or
  after September 1, 2018.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
