A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to good cause for revoking the tenure of or otherwise
  disciplining a faculty member of a public institution of higher
  education in this state.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 51.942, Education Code, is amended by
  adding Subsection (c-1) to read as follows:
         (c-1)  For purposes of Subsection (c)(5), good cause for
  revoking the tenure of or otherwise disciplining a faculty member
  includes the faculty member's initiation of a civil suit against a
  student enrolled at the institution, regardless of whether the
  claim is subsequently litigated or dismissed.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
