relating to the prosecution of the offense of impersonating a | ||
public servant. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 37.11(a), Penal Code, is amended to read | ||
as follows: | ||
(a) A person commits an offense if the person [ |
||
(1) impersonates a public servant with intent to | ||
induce another to submit to the person's [ |
||
authority or to rely on the person's [ |
||
[ |
||
(2) knowingly purports to exercise any function of a | ||
public servant or of a public office, including that of a judge and | ||
court, and the position or office through which the person [ |
||
purports to exercise a function of a public servant or public office | ||
has no lawful existence under the constitution or laws of this state | ||
or of the United States; or | ||
(3) while serving as mediator or arbitrator, knowingly | ||
represents to another person that the actor is or was a member of | ||
the judiciary of this state, any other state, or the United States | ||
or uses any of the titles "judge," "justice," or "honorable," if the | ||
actor was not previously elected or appointed to be a member of the | ||
judiciary of this state, any other state, or the United States. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
