relating to a postsecondary education paths pilot program in | ||
certain independent school districts. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 29, Education Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 29.9175 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 29.9175. POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION PATHS PILOT PROGRAM. | ||
(a) Using funds appropriated for that purpose, the commissioner | ||
shall establish a pilot program under which a school district | ||
participating in the program shall provide information on | ||
considering, selecting, and navigating available postsecondary | ||
education paths to interested students. | ||
(b) The information required under Subsection (a) must | ||
include video tutorials, online resources, and a hard copy workbook | ||
to assist students in considering, selecting, and navigating the | ||
paths available after secondary education in: | ||
(1) the skilled labor workforce, including | ||
certification programs; | ||
(2) a public junior college, including the | ||
opportunities available after completion of a junior college | ||
program; | ||
(3) a senior college or university; and | ||
(4) any other available programs. | ||
(c) A school district participating in the program may | ||
provide information to students in grades 8 through 12. | ||
(d) A school district may not require a student to | ||
participate in the program. | ||
(e) The commissioner shall adopt rules necessary to | ||
implement this section. | ||
(f) This section expires September 1, 2015. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
