entitled to a public education grant. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 29, Education Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 29.2021 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 29.2021. TRANSPORTATION. The school district in which | ||
a student resides shall: | ||
(1) provide each student attending another school in | ||
the district under this subchapter transportation free of charge to | ||
and from the school the student attends; and | ||
(2) provide each student attending a school in another | ||
district under this subchapter transportation free of charge to and | ||
from the school the student would otherwise attend. | ||
SECTION 2. Section 42.155, Education Code, is amended by | ||
adding Subsections (g-1) and (g-2) to read as follows: | ||
(g-1) A school district that provides transportation | ||
services for students under Section 29.2021(1) to a campus in the | ||
district other than the student's campus of regular attendance is | ||
entitled to a state allocation paid on a previous year's | ||
cost-per-mile basis. The maximum rate per mile allowable shall be | ||
set by appropriation based on data gathered from the first year of | ||
each preceding biennium. | ||
(g-2) Notwithstanding Subsection (g-1), the maximum rate | ||
per mile allowable for the state fiscal biennium ending August 31, | ||
2015, for purposes of that subsection shall be set by appropriation | ||
based on available data. This subsection expires September 1, | ||
2015. | ||
SECTION 3. Section 29.203(f), Transportation Code, is | ||
repealed. | ||
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
