| WHEREAS, Christian Torres of Pharr received the | ||
| Entrepreneurship Award from the Governor's Committee on People with | ||
| Disabilities at its Lex Frieden Employment Awards ceremony on | ||
| October 26, 2023; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Each October, in conjunction with National | ||
| Disability Employment Awareness Month, the Governor's Committee | ||
| recognizes Texans who have dedicated themselves to empowering their | ||
| employees, co-workers, and fellow Texans with disabilities; the | ||
| awards program is named in tribute to disability rights expert Lex | ||
| Frieden, one of the chief architects of the Americans with | ||
| Disabilities Act; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Entrepreneurship Award is presented to an | ||
| individual with a disability who has shown extraordinary ingenuity | ||
| and drive in establishing and sustaining a successful business that | ||
| creates jobs and accessible services for others; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Torres is the owner and founder of Christian's | ||
| Cookie House, which provides stuffed cookies and other sweets to | ||
| Texans in the Rio Grande Valley; he is a member of numerous | ||
| community organizations, and he makes contributions to charitable | ||
| causes across the area; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Christian Torres has distinguished himself as an | ||
| inspiring example of the entrepreneurial spirit of the Lone Star | ||
| State, and he is richly deserving of this prestigious honor; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
| Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Christian | ||
| Torres on receiving the 2023 Entrepreneurship Award from the | ||
| Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities Lex Frieden | ||
| Employment Awards program and extend to him sincere best wishes for | ||
| continued success; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Mr. Torres as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
